The Literacy Pirates exist to improve the literacy, confidence and perseverance of children who are falling behind at school.
Children attend weekly after-school sessions where they receive extra adult attention from trained volunteers, who support them with their reading and writing projects.
Each term’s work culminates in a professional publication, such a book, film or podcast. This gives a sense of pride and purpose, while also nurturing creativity.
