What’s another year? A lot when it comes to Givto!

Andy Carter, Chair of Trustees at the Better Giving Partnership, looks back at some of the key achievements from the Givto team in 2023.

The Givto Team

If you’re old enough, you will remember Johnny Logan singing ‘What’s Another Year’?  It secured the Irish singer his first Eurovision win in 1980.

Here at Givto and the Better Giving Partnership, we’ve not had that level of musical success. But 2023 has still been an amazing year for us.

I’ve had the privilege of being on the Givto journey over several years now, ever since the idea of a better way of donating to charity was the brainchild of our founder, Alex.

2023 has been a pivotal year for us. We moved from being an organisation focussed on supporting good causes in our home county of Yorkshire, to being a national service.

It was a bit of a gamble but our expansion proved that location didn’t really matter because charities based many miles away from our Yorkshire home benefited from the kindness and generosity of our Givto members.

We also worked hard in 2023 to raise our profile in our own sector. We pitched for support at a Dragon’s Den-style event in the spring which was a significant step for us to take. Unfortunately, we weren’t successful, but it did open doors for us and we’ve made some amazing new contacts with senior charity people who have bought into our mission and are supporting us along the way.

Over the summer our amazing research volunteers spent many hours speaking to representatives from companies of different shapes and sizes to test ideas for our latest venture which is called ‘Givto for Business’.

This research was successful and really significant for us. So we’re very excited that we’ll be testing Givto for Business – a new model of giving that enables employees to support a range of different causes – with real businesses and real employees in 2024.

And finally, on 1 December – exactly two years after our official launch – we  launched another new initiative called ‘Givto as a Gift’. This means you can now buy a Givto subscription for a friend or family member and give them the opportunity to discover and support a wide range of good causes.

On behalf of the board of trustees, and all our volunteers, I would like to thank you for being part of our community. Together, we are making a huge difference right across the country and beyond.

Best wishes for 2024!
